Interweaving set design, costumes, and choreography Bare Velvet will create an interdisciplinary

space for black woman, black love, queerness and collective difference. Inspired by the following

quote, Bare Velvet, will start with a solo showcasing the beautiful vulnerability and layered

emotions of a black woman.

VLA DANCE is run by artistic director, Victoria Lynn Awkward, an emerging interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on dance, visual arts, and empowerment.
